About Tarot at Dusk

Tarot at Dusk is a quiet reading room on the internet: an original engraved deck, three spreads, and interpretations written by hand in plain language. There is no signup, no paywall on readings, and no pretense that a card can see your future. Cards mirror. That is their whole talent, and it is enough.

How the readings work

The deck deals with real randomness, remembers what it has shown you, and refuses to repeat itself: recently drawn cards are excluded until the deck has toured, and every interpretation is assembled from a large written library so the same card never greets you twice with the same words. Your draw history and streak live in your browser and belong to you; we never see them.

House rules

Readings here are for reflection and entertainment. They are not medical, legal or financial advice, and no card will ever tell you about health, death, or someone else's private life. If a reading lands heavy, take the gentlest interpretation that still tells the truth, and take the evening off.

The deck

The Tarot at Dusk Major Arcana is original art made for this site: copperplate-style engraving, indigo and candle-gold, no text on the faces. A printed edition is planned. If you would like to hear when it exists, the contact page is open.

The longer version

Who makes this

Tarot at Dusk is made by Made Twenty, a small independent studio in Tromsø, Norway, above the Arctic Circle, where dusk is not a metaphor for half the year. We build small, careful things on the internet, and this site is the one we made because we kept finding tarot sites that treated their visitors like marks: three free cards and then a countdown timer, a psychic hotline, a $49 "full reading" upsell. We wanted the other kind of tarot site to exist.

The deck

The 78 cards you draw here were illustrated for this site. We kept the Rider-Waite-Smith bones on purpose: the tradition Pamela Colman Smith drew in 1909 is the closest thing tarot has to a shared alphabet, and a deck that abandons it forces every reader to start over. Ours keeps the symbols and moves the hour: every scene sits in the last light of the day, which is when most people actually reach for their cards.

How the meanings are written

Every card meaning on this site was written individually, upright and reversed, in one voice, drawing on the traditional interpretations that descend from Waite's Pictorial Key and a century of readers arguing with it since. Where tradition disagrees with itself, we say so on the card's page rather than pretending there is one true meaning. Nothing here is bulk-generated filler, and if you catch a page that reads like it was, tell us and we will rewrite it.

What we will not do

We will not predict your health, your legal case, your pregnancy, or your money, and we will not sell you anyone who claims they can. The readings here are for reflection and entertainment in the oldest sense of that word: something that holds your attention while you think. Big decisions deserve professionals, and feelings deserve honest furniture. We supply the furniture.

Questions, corrections, or a card that read you a little too accurately: write to us. A human reads everything.
