The Three of Wands belongs to the suit of Wands, the fire suit, which governs will, energy, ambition, creation and the appetite for more. Upright, its keynotes are ships on the way, expansion underway, the long watch; reversed, it turns toward delayed ships, shortcuts foiled, watching the wrong sea. In our engraving the scene keeps the suit's element close: fire rendered in indigo and candle gold, the card's emblems worked into fine copperplate linework with no text on the face.
